Rasputin is seen as a man with mystical and magical powers. He is seen as an evil manipulator with suggestions that he was even in league with the devil, and he is portrayed as such in fictional adaptations in film and other media.

For Millennials and Generation Z, the promise of the American Dream has been compromised by these conditions, fueling an appetite for candidates who promise sweeping economic change. When current conditions are compared to previous generations, the appeal of a state that guarantees necessities—such as universal healthcare, affordable housing, and tuition-free education—becomes a central mobilizing message for the modern left.Defining the Term: A Conceptual Blur Despite its rising visibility, there is profound confusion about what "democratic socialism" actually entails. The term is often used interchangeably—and sometimes pejoratively—with communism or 20th-century Marxism, leading to a polarized debate. The Populist View: Proponents argue that the U.S. already employs successful socialist policies, such as Social Security and public education, and that the modern platform is an extension of these programs to provide a stronger social safety net. The Critical View: Opponents, including many Republican leaders, frame the movement as a threat to the constitutional republic, arguing that it seeks to expand state control over the economy to a degree that stifles individual initiative and free enterprise. The Reality Gap: Polling consistently reflects this conceptual divide. While a significant portion of younger Americans view socialism favorably, most Americans reject the platform's more radical proposals, such as abolishing the U.S. Senate, the presidency, or the police. The "DSA" Effect vs. The Broader Movement The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has emerged as the movement's most prominent organization, but it represents only a small fraction of those who identify as democratic socialists. While the DSA has successfully built infrastructure, gained dues-paying members, and endorsed winning candidates in deep-blue districts, its national platform—which includes sweeping changes to core federal institutions—has often created friction even with mainstream progressives. Candidates affiliated with the movement have increasingly found success by focusing on concrete economic issues rather than abstract ideological platforms, often distinguishing themselves from entrenched party incumbents. However, this strategy has led to intense internal conflict within the Democratic Party, as establishment figures and progressive challengers engage in "bruising ideological battles" for the direction of the party heading into 2028.Challenges and Future Outlook As the 2026 midterms and the upcoming 2028 presidential race approach, the socialist movement faces significant hurdles regarding "mass appeal". The Electability Question: While progressive candidates have notched wins in congressional and local races, the ability of these candidates to win in competitive, statewide general elections remains a primary point of contention. Institutional Resistance: Even within the left, there is resistance to the most radical proposals advocated by the DSA, as seen when prominent democratic socialist figures, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders, dismissed calls to abolish the U.S. Senate. Political Weaponization: The term "socialism" has become a highly effective political weapon for conservative opponents, who frequently tie the movement's radical, anti-establishment rhetoric to the broader Democratic Party platform, complicating efforts to win over moderate and independent voters. Ultimately, the rise of democratic socialism in America marks the end of a long period of political consensus following the Cold War. Whether this movement creates a lasting political realignment or remains a localized phenomenon depends on the ability of its proponents to bridge the gap between grassroots energy and broad-based general election viability. As it stands, the movement is successfully forcing a reckoning over the future of American capitalism and the role of the state in the 21st century.

The Resurgence and Reality of Socialism in Modern America

Socialism in the United States has experienced a revival unseen in at least a century, evolving from a marginal political curiosity into a driving force within the Democratic Party. As economic anxiety mounts and generational divides widen, what was once a fringe movement is now a centerpiece of national political discourse, even if it remains deeply misunderstood and contested. The Economic Drivers of a Movement

The resurgence of democratic socialism is not merely an ideological trend; it is deeply rooted in tangible economic shifts. Widening wealth inequality has become the economic foundation for the movement's appeal. As neoliberalism—characterized by tax cuts, financial liberalization, and industrial offshoring—has dominated economic governance since the late 20th century, many Americans have faced stagnant wages, skyrocketing housing costs, and mounting student debt.

All were murdered 1917. Nicholas II[c] (Nikolai Alexandrovich Romanov; 18 May [O.S. 6 May] 1868 – 17 July 1918) was Emperor of Russia from 1 November 1894 until his abdication in 1917. He was the last Russian monarch before the Russian Revolution and oversaw the Russian Empire's participation in World War I. In 1918, the Romanovs were murdered, putting an end to the Romanov dynasty.

All of the above felt by the citizens and woven into the political machine only brought this...The death of the last Russian czar, Nicholas II, in 1918 marked a significant turning point that contributed to the rise of communism in Russia. However,

communism as a political ideology began earlier with Karl Marx and was put into practice by Vladimir Lenin following the Russian Revolution of 1917, which overthrew the czarist regime.

The Rise of Communism in Russia

The transition to communism was influenced by several key events.

  • Nicholas II's Execution — The czar and his family were executed on July 17, 1918, symbolizing the end of the Romanov dynasty.

  • Russian Revolution — The revolution in 1917 led to the Bolsheviks seizing power, establishing a communist government.

  • Lenin's Role — Lenin implemented Marxist theories, transforming Russia into the first communist state.

  • Political Unrest — Years of unrest and dissatisfaction with the czarist regime set the stage for revolutionary change.

OPINION #1

Edna - California's November ballot is shaping up to be the biggest tax fight in years - with 3 statewide tax hikes, 319 local tax hikes, and a handful of candidate races deciding the fate of the insane new state MILEAGE TAX. Below are the crucial details you need to know before you vote - but we URGENTLY need your help to defeat these tax hikes!

Contribute: Stop the CA Mileage Tax and Other Tax Hikes in 2026

Our Offense — The Taxpayer Protection Trio Props
We are not just fighting to defeat costly tax hikes on your ballot, we are going on the offense to pass three game-changing statewide ballot measures to make it harder for state and local politicians to raise your taxes going forward.

• Yes on Prop 41 – Audit Special Taxes (includes stopping the Mileage Tax scheme)
• Yes on Prop 42 – Stop the Savings Tax
• Yes on Prop 43 – Local Taxpayer Protection Initiative (Saves Prop 13)

Our Defense — Block These Tax Hikes Props
Unfortunately, until we pass Props 41, 42, and 43, we still have to defeat a bunch of costly tax hikes currently on the ballot!

• No on Prop 2 – Cancels tax rebates when the spending limit is exceeded
• No on Prop 3 – Massive income tax increase
• No on Prop 40 – A "billionaire" tax that's really an "everybody" tax
• No on 319 Local Measures - We've flagged 319 measures on your local ballot that raise your taxes.

Target Candidate Races - Stop the "MILEAGE TAX"
It's not just the measures on your ballot that can raise your taxes! The fate of the insane MILEAGE TAX plan concocted by CA Democrats will be decided by the outcome of 7 target races for the state legislature!

• The "Mileage Tax" is a proposed 6¢-per-mile charge on every driver (avg. $900/year).
• That is the equivalent of a spike in the gas tax of between 87 cents and 1.15 per gallon of gas!
• We're making the Mileage Tax the wedge issue in 7 target seats this November - and if we win these candidate races, the Mileage Tax is DEAD!

Ballots hit mailboxes in just 27 days from TODAY!

Can you rush in a contribution so we can get the resources we need to wage an aggressive campaign to win these tax fights and make sure a Mileage Tax NEVER gets implemented in California?

Contribute: Stop the CA Mileage Tax and Other Tax Hikes in 2026

Next week we will release our first ads on the Mileage Tax plan - but for now check out the news story below and share it with your friends so they know how to vote this November to stop this insane new tax on California drivers!

But for now, please chip in a contribution - even a small amount helps us close the gap before Election Day.

Best,

communities throughout California and ensure that any final legislation provides both certainty and fairness for families who have long called the United States

This exclusive report by Angel Hernandez for YoSoy Media details Parlier Mayor Alma Beltran's perspectives and community concerns regarding the DIGNITY Act of 2025 (H.R. 4393), a bipartisan federal immigration reform bill co-sponsored by Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Veronica Escobar (D-TX).

National Immigration Forum

The DIGNITY Act, introduced in Congress by Representatives María Elvira Salazar (R-Florida) and Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), proposes a new legal process for certain undocumented immigrants while pairing immigration reform with stronger border security. Still, Beltran says many residents remain concerned about how the proposal would work in practice. “One of the biggest questions I hear is from someone who has lived here for 30 years,” she said. “If they register, are they truly protected? Or are they simply putting themselves on a federal list that could later be used against them if the law changes? Those are fair questions, and families deserve clear answers.” Beltran emphasized that the bill is still proposed legislation and has not yet become law. She also addressed confusion surrounding community support efforts. “Many people have asked how many California cities need to sign a petition before this legislation moves forward,” Beltran explained. “The truth is, cities can adopt resolutions supporting the DIGNITY Act, but Congress—not cities—decides whether this bill becomes law. There is no legal requirement for a certain number of cities to sign on.” According to Beltran, community members are also asking whether long-term farmworkers, parents of U.S. citizen children and grandchildren, Dreamers, and individuals who have served or supported America’s military will receive additional protections under the legislation. “Our farmworkers have helped feed this nation for generations,” Beltran said. “Many have spent their entire adult lives contributing to our economy and raising families here. They want to know whether this legislation truly recognizes those contributions.” Beltran said she would also like Congress to explain whether the DIGNITY Act is intended to be the final answer for immigration reform or whether lawmakers are continuing to develop additional legislation that could provide stronger protections for long-term undocumented residents, military families, agricultural workers, and other essential members of American communities. “Families shouldn’t have to wonder whether they should wait for another bill,” she said. “They deserve to know if this is their opportunity or if Congress intends to consider additional pathways in the future.” While acknowledging the need for secure borders, Beltran said immigration reform should also recognize the reality of communities like Parlier. “We can have secure borders while treating people with dignity,” she said. “Those goals are not mutually exclusive.” For Beltran, the issue goes beyond politics. “This isn’t just about legislation,” she said. “It’s about real people who have spent decades building their lives here, raising families, contributing to our communities, and believing in the American dream. Before asking those families to trust a new system, Congress should make sure every question has a clear answer.” As debate over the DIGNITY Act continues in Washington, Beltran says she hopes lawmakers will continue listening to the concerns of agricultural

YO SOY MEDIA | SPECIAL REPORTAVENAL OUSTS MAYOR ALVARO PRECIADO

1.
A 16-Year Record of Public Service, a Historic Recall, and Racial Tensions That Cannot Be Ignored

By Angel Hernandez | Yo Soy Media
August 28, 2026

AVENAL, Calif. — For months, the small Central Valley community of Avenal has been at the center of an extraordinary political battle involving a recall election, lawsuits, accusations of government secrecy, a dispute over fire protection, and increasingly bitter confrontations between residents and elected officials.

At the center of that controversy is Alvaro Preciado.

Preciado, who told reporters he had served as an elected official in Avenal for approximately 16 years, was one of four members of the five-member City Council recalled by voters in the April 28, 2026 special election. (gvwire.com (https://gvwire.com/2026/08/05/avenal-voted-them-out-they-refuse-to-leave-now-what/?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

The voters’ decision was decisive. Kings County certified the election in May. Of 712 residents who cast ballots, more than 75% voted to remove Preciado and Councilmembers Leticia Gamez, David Reynosa and Pablo Hernandez. (kvpr.org (https://www.kvpr.org/2026-05-29/in-avenal-four-of-five-city-councilmembers-ousted-in-citizen-led-recall-effort?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

That result must be acknowledged.

But so should something else.

The political battle that ultimately removed Preciado cannot erase his years of public service, and legitimate criticism of government officials should never provide cover for racial insults directed at Latino public servants.

2. .WHAT STARTED THE RECALL?

The controversy was largely triggered by Avenal’s decision to move away from contracting with Kings County for fire protection and establish its own municipal fire department.

Preciado said Kings County proposed increasing Avenal’s annual fire-service cost from approximately $450,000 to $1.1 million. He argued that the city therefore had an obligation to examine alternatives.

Some residents saw things very differently.

Recall organizers said the fire department controversy represented a larger problem involving transparency, accountability and the way residents felt they were being treated by their government. Organizers began gathering signatures and ultimately collected enough to place the recall before voters. citeturn0news5turn0search3

The recall organizers had every right to make that argument, organize and vote.

And Avenal voters ultimately agreed with them overwhelmingly.

THE DECISION THAT DEEPENED THE CRISIS

The controversy did not end with the election.

Preciado, Gamez and Hernandez voted June 11 to continue serving while challenging whether Kings County had authority to administer the recall election without additional City Council authorization.

Preciado maintained that he was seeking judicial due process rather than simply refusing to recognize an election.

Kings County and recall organizers rejected that argument.

The California Attorney General subsequently granted permission for a quo warranto action — the legal procedure used to challenge someone’s right to occupy a public office. The Attorney General’s opinion found that the dispute presented a substantial legal issue worthy of judicial resolution. (casemine.com (https://www.casemine.com/judgement/us/6a71cee6536d1ea91052b313?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

That resolution has now arrived.

Alvaro-with-plague.jpg

On August 24, Kings County Superior Court Judge Jennifer Giuliani ruled that the four council positions were vacant and upheld the result of the recall. The judge acknowledged an irregularity in the administration of the election but concluded that it did not affect the result or merits of the election.

Preciado said he would abide by the court’s decision while reviewing his legal options.

Importantly, the court also ruled that Preciado remains eligible to seek office again in the November 2026 election. (sfchronicle.com (https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/recalled-council-members-in-avenal-must-leave-22402914.php?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

RACISM CANNOT BE EXPLAINED AWAY AS POLITICS

There is another part of the Avenal story that deserves examination.

Race.

Avenal is a predominantly Latino Central Valley community. During the political turmoil surrounding the recall, Preciado and other Latino city officials reported experiencing racism and threats. (sfchronicle.com (https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/avenal-city-council-recall-22308439.php?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

This was not merely an allegation that somebody privately “felt” something was racist.

There were documented public remarks.

During the June 11 City Council meeting, a resident directed comments toward the Latino officials that questioned whether someone on the dais understood English and suggested that the comments could be translated into Spanish. The same speaker also made remarks involving burritos and jail or prison.

The Fresno Bee reported on those statements while covering the city’s condemnation of threats and racist remarks following the meeting. (fresnobee.com (https://www.fresnobee.com/news/local/article316140257.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

Whatever someone’s opinion of Preciado’s decisions, his handling of the fire department, or his decision to challenge the recall, none of those issues requires attacking someone’s ethnicity, language or cultural background.Accountability is legitimate.Racism is not.BUT WAS THE RECALL ITSELF RACIST?

3. This distinction matters.Yo Soy Media has found evidence that racially charged comments occurred during the conflict and that Latino officials reported racism and threats. That is not the same as proving that the entire recall movement was motivated by racism.

Civil Servants

Back in the 1980s, becoming a hired civil servant and entering public service was a moment of deep personal pride. In those days, that role was held in high regard by our families, and our elders truly viewed the assignment as an honorable extension of our government.

I wanted to share these thoughts with you as context for the comparison chart below:  I had zero idea our "new" population view point of a  80's career move taking a position within government was not being treated as a great opportunity. Yup, a service to your fellow human, helping my neighbor, Community a "
best" reflection as a citizen helping a citizen.

This seem to not be the focus. Personal experience with personnel at Fresno downtown is not of total "Doing the right thing".  People are stiff, they are doing what they are bullied to do or say or manifest lies, Why? Money?

Selling your soul directly to the devil rather than stand up for your belief or what was promised? Really? This action and thinking will come back to bite you!

Leaders. I was never told leaders would be harmful, nor tell lies, or cheat the people or take time to have individuals hurt, told lies about or place dead mutilated animals  at there property to scare them.  Nor was I ever told those wearing those uniforms would target me or not perform their services as paid. Talking about  FPD not patrolling West Fresno these taxpayers need to subtract from there tax bill the charge for services - that's right!

Now the City is flaunting money, I would add up my bill for thirty plus years of not providing patrols to protect property and person.  Send a request for reimbursement, send a duplicate to governor request he repay the citizens first before any other distribution of 100 million dollars!

You pissed me off!

My crazy memory says and believes these positions are still  considered valued government career positions which serve the people. At this moment I'm seeking the best result from this slogan - America First!   I am not a big Trump fan...though this slogan needs to resonate with us as important humans!  Some of us an irreplaceable ethnic group which has grown to 65% of the total population with genus ideas and much energy!

Stop with the jealousy, bad manners who are you to judge?

To me, as I was socialized to care about HUMANS regardless of speech, color of skin (never came into the conversation), what they are wearing, or smell like or where they live. Humans are rare each has its own reality, goals, experience, age or no age each of us can learn from each other.

Care. Consideration. No combat.

We DID NOT have fancy meals brought into Civic center. We the ladies of each department brought potluck we would eat together. If our supervisors wanted to celebrate they would take us to cafe and have lunch with the teams to learn and know staffers  - their personalities and families.

Politeness, engaging - when I first became a public servant willingness to work taking action. Not to sit on my behind and guess - this is lazy!

Today 2026 downtown Fresno Civic Center is filled with the latter - lazy, those who DO NOT know the departments in the building! Abuse first. Questions later.

I guess back then, slowing down, asking How can I help you? Let's work together to find the right answer for you. Our population was still in tune with Good morning !

Today our civil servants need to learn what their jobs are, how does my job intersect with other departments in the building and most of all DO YOUR WORK Properly, ask questions (no one talks anymore!), and if the Mayor or anyone above you calls threatening you losing your job because you don't react to their needs just say ok, I know my job. Report the abuse to your supervisor.

Taking sides is not your job!  Labor board, union rep?

Oaths for Office

Assimilation:

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Title 28 of the U.S. Code outlines the oath of office for federal judges and attorneys, emphasizing their commitment to administer justice impartially and faithfully. This oath is a crucial part of their responsibilities before assuming office.

Oath of Office Details

The oath of office is significant for various federal positions.

  • Judges' Oath — Each U.S. judge must swear to administer justice without bias, ensuring equal rights for all.

  • Attorneys' Oath — U.S. attorneys also take an oath to execute their duties faithfully before taking office.

  • Affirmation Option — Individuals may choose to affirm instead of swearing an oath, omitting religious phrases.

  • Historical Context — The oath has evolved but maintains core principles of

Judge's Oath

The oath of office is a cornerstone of judicial accountability, serving as a binding commitment to uphold the law, the Constitution, and the highest standards of ethical conduct. Mandated by Article VI of the Constitution, the oath requires all public officials, including judges, to adhere to fundamental principles of justice, fairness, and accountability.

In California, this commitment is reinforced by multiple government codes that directly address violations related to the oath of office. Government Code Section 1303 makes it a misdemeanor for any individual to exercise a public office without first taking the oath. Additionally, Government Code Section 1368 categorizes any intentional false statement made while taking the oath as perjury—a felony offense punishable by up to four years in prison.

Yes, a city mayor typically swears an oath of office that aligns with the general civil service oath, which includes a commitment to support and defend the Constitution and faithfully execute their duties. This oath is a formal requirement before assuming office and is designed to uphold the integrity of public service.

Oath of Office for City Mayors

City mayors take a specific oath of office that reflects their responsibilities.

  • General Requirement — Most mayors must take an oath to uphold the Constitution and execute their duties faithfully, as outlined in federal and state laws.

  • California Specifics — In California, mayors must subscribe to the oath set forth in Section 3 of Article XX of the state Constitution.

  • Certification — The oath must be certified by the officer before whom it was taken and filed with appropriate entities.

The Oath of Office is a formal promise made by individuals elected to public office, committing them to uphold the Constitution and faithfully execute their duties. This oath emphasizes loyalty to the Constitution rather than to any individual or political entity.

Understanding the Oath of Office

The Oath of Office serves several important functions.

  • Purpose — The oath reminds officials that their allegiance is to the Constitution, not to any supervisor or political figure.

  • Accountability — It holds public servants accountable to the citizens, ensuring they prioritize the nation's founding principles.

  • Legal Requirement — The oath is mandated by the Constitution for various federal and state offices.

  • Civic Duty — Swearing the oath signifies a commitment to uphold the rule of law and respect citizens' rights.

This is the oath -President and Governor's

In 2026, both the President of the United States and state governors will take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution. This oath is mandated by Article VI of the U.S. Constitution and is similarly required for state officials, ensuring their commitment to the Constitution and the laws of their respective states.

Oath of Office Details

The oaths for civil leaders are crucial for governance.

  • Federal Oath — The President's oath includes a promise to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States".

  • State Oath — Governors, like California's, affirm to support both the U.S. Constitution and their state constitution.

  • Legal Requirement — Oaths must be filed with the Secretary of State, ensuring accountability.

  • Historical Context — The requirement for an oath is rooted in Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, which applies to all federal and state officials.

Significance:

The presidential oath is significant as it formally commits the president to uphold the Constitution and execute the duties of the office faithfully. This oath symbolizes the president's dedication to the principles of democracy and the rule of law, reinforcing the importance of accountability in governance.

Importance of the Presidential Oath

The presidential oath carries profound implications for leadership and governance.

  • Constitutional Commitment — The oath requires the president to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution," emphasizing loyalty to the nation's foundational document.

  • Ceremonial Tradition — Typically administered by the Chief Justice, the oath marks the official start of a president's term, underscoring its ceremonial importance.

  • Symbol of Accountability — By taking the oath, the president acknowledges their responsibility to the public and the law, reinforcing democratic principles.

  • Universal Standard — The oath establishes a standard of loyalty to the Constitution for all federal officials, promoting a culture of integrity within government.

The legal code section number for the presidential oath is Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the U.S. Constitution.

Details of the Presidential Oath

The presidential oath is a crucial part of the U.S. Constitution.

  • Oath Requirement — The President must swear to "faithfully execute the Office of President" and "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution".

  • Constitutional Basis — This oath is explicitly stated in Article II, Section 1, Clause 8 of the Constitution.

  • Verbatim Language — The Constitution prescribes the exact wording of the oath, making it one of the few instances of verbatim language required for federal officials.

  • Affirmation Option — The President has the option to affirm rather than swear the oath.

Picture of Ai unit_edited_edited.jpg

However, greater productivity does not automatically mean greater job security.

According to the International Labor Organization, approximately one in four workers worldwide holds a job with some exposure to generative AI. About 3.3 percent of global employment falls within the highest exposure category. The organization emphasizes that most affected jobs are more likely to be transformed than eliminated—but transformation can still mean fewer employees, fewer hours or increased demands on the workers who remain. International Labour Organization (https://www.ilo.org/publications/generative-ai-and-jobs-refined-global-index-occupational-exposure)

The World Economic Forum estimates that major economic and technological changes could create 170 million jobs globally by 2030, while displacing approximately 92 million existing jobs. That would represent a net increase of 78 million jobs, but there is an important problem: the workers who lose their positions may not have the education, training or location necessary to obtain the newly created jobs. World Economic Forum (https://www.weforum.org/publications/the-future-of-jobs-report-2025/)

Artificial intelligence is no longer something expected in the distant future. It is already answering customer-service calls, reviewing job applications, creating schedules, monitoring employee productivity and helping machines perform tasks that once required human workers.

For employers, AI and automation offer significant financial benefits. They can help businesses operate faster, reduce mistakes, increase production and lower labor costs. Machines can work around the clock without requesting time off, taking breaks or receiving traditional employee benefits.

A study involving 5,179 customer-support agents found that workers using an AI assistant increased their productivity by an average of 14 percent. The increase reached 34 percent among newer and less-experienced workers, demonstrating how AI can help businesses train employees and complete more work in less time. National Bureau of Economic Research (https://www.nber.org/papers/w31161)

AI Taking Over Jobs?
Benefits for Employers, Hardship for Workers

Help companies operate with fewer employees.

Lower long-term labor and training expenses.

Analyze large amounts of information quickly.

Monitor productivity in real time.

AI can also make employees more effective instead of replacing them. A warehouse worker might use an automated system to locate merchandise, while a farm employee could use sensors to identify crop or irrigation problems. When properly introduced, technology can reduce physical strain and allow workers to develop valuable new skills.

But companies must decide whether they will use AI to support their workforce or primarily to reduce it.

The hardship for workers

For workers, losing a job is not simply an economic statistic. It can mean falling behind on rent, losing health insurance, struggling to buy food or being unable to support children.

Many positions vulnerable to automation do not require a college degree. They have traditionally provided people with an entry into the workforce and an opportunity to support their families. If those jobs disappear, workers may be told to “learn new skills,” but retraining requires time, transportation, internet access and money—resources that displaced workers may not have.

There is also a risk that technology will make remaining jobs more demanding. AI can track how quickly employees work, calculate time between tasks and establish production expectations. Instead of reducing pressure, automation can cause workers to compete against standards established by machines.

Businesses may save money, but communities can absorb the social cost through unemployment, poverty, lost spending and greater demand for public assistance.

What this means for Central Valley warehouses

Warehousing and distribution have become important sources of employment throughout California’s Central Valley. These jobs are especially valuable to younger workers and people without four-year degrees.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that approximately 6.9 million Americans worked as hand laborers and material movers in 2025. The occupation had a median annual wage of $38,220, while workers in transportation and warehousing earned a median of $44,710. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (https://www.bls.gov/ooh/transportation-and-material-moving/hand-laborers-and-material-movers.htm)

The data do not show that all warehouse jobs are disappearing. Employment for hand laborers and material movers is projected to grow 4 percent from 2025 to 2035. However, the effects will vary greatly by position:

Employment for stockers and order fillers is projected to grow 9 percent.

Hand packer and packager positions are projected to decline 5 percent.

Machine feeder and off bearer positions are projected to decline 13 percent.

That shows the likely future of warehouse employment: not the immediate disappearance of every job, but fewer purely manual positions and greater demand for workers who can operate, troubleshoot and maintain automated equipment.

Technology adoption is already significant. In 2023, automated guidance systems were used by 52 percent of midsized crop farms and 70 percent of large-scale crop farms nationally. Farmers reported adopting technology to increase yields, reduce input costs and save labor time. USDA Economic Research Service (https://ers.usda.gov/data-products/charts-of-note/110550)

In the Central Valley, machines may increasingly inspect crops, remove weeds, sort produce, monitor water usage and assist with harvesting. These tools could help farms conserve water, reduce chemical use and protect workers from extreme heat or dangerous physical labor.

But they could also reduce the number of entry-level and seasonal jobs available to farmworkers. Smaller family farms may struggle to afford expensive technology, while large agricultural companies gain an even greater competitive advantage. Communities that depend heavily on farm labor could experience reduced income throughout the local economy.

The Central Valley cannot afford to be left behind

AI and automation are not going away. The question is whether the Central Valley will prepare its workforce—or wait until workers have already been displaced.

Local employers, community colleges, school districts and workforce-development agencies should begin offering affordable, bilingual training in robotics, equipment repair, agricultural technology, logistics and computer systems. Programs must be available to current workers, including those who cannot afford to stop working while attending school.

Companies benefiting financially from automation should also share responsibility for the transition. Workers deserve advance notice, retraining opportunities and a fair chance to move into the new positions created by technology.

Central Valley workers will increasingly need access to training in robotics, equipment maintenance, logistics technology, computerized inventory systems and workplace safety. Employers should provide that training before automation eliminates positions—not after workers are handed a termination notice.

What this means for Central Valley agriculture

Agriculture is the foundation of the Central Valley economy, and the pressure to automate is already growing.

California’s agricultural sales totaled approximately $59 billion in 2022, and Fresno County ranked first in the nation—producing more agricultural sales than 23 individual states. California Department of Food and Agriculture (https://plantingseedsblog.cdfa.ca.gov/index.php/2024/02/13/nine-california-counties-make-top-10-list-for-ag-sales-in-the-u-s/)

Agricultural employers face rising labor, water, fuel and equipment costs. Labor represents about 40 cents of every dollar in cash expenses for specialty-crop farms, including fruit, nut, vegetable and nursery operations. This creates a powerful financial incentive to automate planting, spraying, sorting, packing and harvesting. USDA Economic Research Service (https://ers.usda.gov/data-products/charts-of-note/115125)

The Central Valley has always powered California through the labor of warehouse employees, truck drivers, farmworkers and food-processing workers. Technological progress should make their jobs safer and create pathways toward better-paying careers. It should not treat the people who built these industries as disposable.

AI may be able to move a package, sort a crop or calculate productivity—but it cannot understand what losing a paycheck means to a Central Valley family. Our future must include innovation, but it must also include dignity, opportunity and protection for the workers whose labor keeps our region moving.

By Angel Hernandez | Yo Soy Media

page 7

A new technology-related job created somewhere else does not immediately help a warehouse employee, farmworker or administrative assistant who suddenly loses a paycheck here at home.

The benefits for employers

Businesses have understandable reasons for adopting AI and automation. These systems can:

Complete repetitive tasks faster.

Reduce workplace injuries by handling dangerous or physically demanding assignments.

Improve inventory tracking and production planning.

Reduce errors and wasted materials.

Peter B_edited.png

What were you doing on 9/11

Everyone ask this question 25 years after the New York Twin Towers was hit by two planes with the intent to demolish the building and kill Americans.

Then next question is Do you feel America, Americans safer or is our security diminished to a No return status open to invasion?

Above is a picture of Peter, I was entering our home as i returned from Big Pine, burying him at a young 49. Very sad day for me. My Vietnam Vet Ship-welder who was in line for the fire dept.

I was watching this totally unimaginable crazy actions happening in real time on National television! OMG are we in trouble. Is this a War?

My Sister-law Laura talked me through what was happening and USA's status report from the white house.

They do a great job!

Now we are 25 years later, no I don't feel safe, safer nor do i feel American citizens being cared for as they should be? No our rights are being striped. My opinion. Our citizens need to be more involved give notice to each of their government leaders Stop tax abuse, give us promised services and quit hurting people - that treatment is unacceptable for tamed society. Let's elected civilized thinking leadership who authentically cares about humanity.

A really valuable item I would put my hand close to or protect covering the pocket with my hand. My goal is to get contents of my right-hand pocket to it's destination.  I take the shortest, quickest route to the destination.

Most folks will take time to react, boast or seize a moment admire the prize.  On my way I may cross the path of an admiring neighbor. I take time to show my neighbor the item, carefully lifting it out of my pocket, examining the item before I set it down on my neighbor's table.   My neighbor is not allowed to pick-up the item, just look.

After the viewing, I put the item back into my pocket, continuing to our destination Downtown.

OMG finally we arrive. I take the item out of my pocket. Once again,  I very carefully examining the item
as I place it on the table I hear a gasp, "what, is it? "There, as the person points to the base of the item a deep chip appeared. It was perfectly fine when I put it into my pocket, after I showed it to my neighbor taking it out one time.

The point is it only takes one time, one person, one thought, one motive, one belief, one with power to change YOUR MIND, opinion or perhaps show you your life can be better if you choose to follow or believe the persuasive person. They want to mentally sway you-the-intended-follower to give into ??%$ who knows what without really understanding the true outcome of a decision. This happens in America daily will you allow this to happen to you because they targeted you with some of the attics I am sharing below?

The "they" are those who purposefully have taken your money leaving your area without basic needs. Rasputin's serfdoma hidden purpose and not the "outcome" you are told is the best remedy. Rather they represent a solution which somewhat aids your family some relief but the questions are is it legal, is it within acceptable vs actual agreeance of the many.

The Source LGBT+ Center Has a Home — Now It Needs Our Help
By Edna Collins | Yo Soy Media

The Source LGBT+ Center has reached an incredible milestone: they bought the building. After years of creating a place where LGBTQ+ people in Visalia and throughout the Central Valley can find community, resources, acceptance, and support, The Source now has a permanent space to call home.  But purchasing the building was only Phase 1. Now comes the work of turning that building into the welcoming, functional community center our neighbors deserve.

The Source has set a $1 million fundraising goal and, according to its Build to Belong campaign materials, has already raised $665,000. That is tremendous progress—but there is still a significant gap to close. The building needs important improvements, including new windows, air-conditioning repairs, exterior painting, an upstairs bathroom, a community-center kitchenette, landscaping, lighting, accessibility and other renovations. These aren’t simply cosmetic improvements. They are investments in a permanent gathering place where people can walk through the doors and know that they belong. This is where our community can make a difference. You don’t have to be LGBTQ+ to recognize the importance of having safe and supportive spaces in the Central Valley. You simply have to believe that our neighbors deserve dignity, opportunity, connection, and a place where they can be themselves. The Source has already taken the enormous step of securing its permanent home. Now it needs all of us to help finish it.Whether it’s a donation, sponsorship, volunteering, sharing the campaign with others, or encouraging a local business to become involved, every contribution can move this project closer to completion. The message behind this campaign says it perfectly: They have the house. Now, together, we can help make it a home.— Edna CollinsYo Soy Media

page 5 Continued The Other Side of AlvaroYO SOY MEDIA | SPECIAL REPORTAVENAL OUSTS MAYOR ALVARO PRECIADO

In fact, recall supporters disputed that characterization.Veronica Loya, a Mexican American recall supporter and longtime Avenal resident, told the San Francisco Chronicle that racist comments did not represent the recall movement as a whole. She said she opposed racism while maintaining that residents had legitimate concerns about their local government. (sfchronicle.com (https://www.sfchronicle.com/california/article/avenal-city-council-recall-22308439.php?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

That perspective deserves to be reported too.City Manager Antony López took a considerably different position, publicly arguing that racist slurs, threats and harassment showed that the recall conflict had moved beyond legitimate accountability. Recall supporters countered that focusing on racism was distracting from the election result. citeturn0search0turn0news3

The available evidence therefore supports a more careful conclusion:

There is documented evidence of racial hostility during the Avenal recall controversy. There is not sufficient evidence to label every recall supporter, or the recall election itself, racist.
Both facts can exist at the same time.
THE OTHER SIDE OF ALVARO PRECIADO’S LEGACY
Lost in the national attention surrounding the recall is another question:
What happened in Avenal during Preciado’s years in office?
Preciado’s political career did not begin with the 2026 recall.

He told reporters he had served as an Avenal elected official for approximately 16 years. During that period, Avenal pursued significant infrastructure, recreation, housing and water initiatives. Those projects were actions of the city and City Council collectively, so it would be inaccurate to credit any one elected official for accomplishing them alone.

Preciado nevertheless participated in city government while these initiatives moved forward. (gvwire.com (https://gvwire.com/2026/08/05/avenal-voted-them-out-they-refuse-to-leave-now-what/?utm_source=chatgpt.com))
    AVENAL COMMUNITY CENTER
One of the largest long-term projects has been the Avenal Community Center.
The city says the project began in 2016 as a planned approximately 34,000-square-foot community facility featuring a basketball court, indoor soccer field, fitness room, kitchen-learning space, banquet hall and offices for local sports organizations.
Its first phase received approximately $2.4 million in Community Development Block Grant funding for design and construction.
Official city records from 2018 show Preciado serving as mayor while the council moved forward with engineering work associated with the Community Center. citeturn0search4turn1search7
     HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES
During Preciado’s tenure, Avenal has maintained housing programs designed to assist working and lower-income residents.
The city’s programs include first-time homebuyer assistance, rehabilitation assistance for qualifying low-income homeowners and assistance related to accessory dwelling units. The first-time buyer program offers qualifying purchasers the possibility of zero-interest deferred-payment assistance, while rehabilitation programs can help residents address accessibility, roofing, plumbing and electrical needs. (cityofavenal.gov (https://cityofavenal.gov/215/Housing-Programs?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

Again, these are City of Avenal programs — not programs belonging personally to one mayor — but they form part of the governmental record during Preciado’s tenure.

    WATER INFRASTRUCTURE

Avenal also pursued long-term water planning.

CONTINUED -Key Take Aways - DIGNITY ACT

Continue from page-4 .

Key Takeaways from the Article Demand for Transparency & Protection Concerns: Mayor Beltran emphasizes that Central Valley immigrant families—many of whom have lived in the community for decades, paid taxes, and raised U.S.-citizen children and grandchildren—need clear answers before coming forward to register. Their primary fear is whether registering puts them on a federal list that could later be weaponized if immigration policy shifts. Clarifying the Role of Local Cities: Beltran addresses a common misconception in the community, clarifying that while local municipal resolutions can express political support, city petitions or signatures do not pass federal laws—only the U.S. Congress has the authority to enact the DIGNITY Act. Recognition for Key Groups: The community wants clarity on whether long-term farmworkers, Dreamers, military families, and parents of U.S. citizens will receive enhanced, distinct protections under the proposal. Long-Term Clarity: Beltran urges Congress to specify whether the DIGNITY Act is intended as the definitive legislative solution or if future legislation establishing stronger pathways (e.g., permanent residency or citizenship options) will follow. House.gov Balanced Approach: The Mayor asserts that securing the nation's borders and treating long-term residents with dignity and fairness are not mutually exclusive goals.

Fact Sheet: How the DIGNITY Act Addresses These Concerns

Aspect

Provisions in the DIGNITY Act of 2025

Legal Status & Protection

Establishes Dignity Status, granting temporary 7-year protection from removal and legal work authorization for undocumented residents in the U.S. prior to Dec 31, 2020. Participants pay restitution fees and mandatory payroll contributions.

Dreamers & Youth

Provides a direct path to Permanent Residency (Green Card) for qualified Dreamers who meet educational, employment, or military service requirements.

Agricultural Workers

The DIGNITY Act of 2025 (H.R. 4393) introduced by Reps. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) and Veronica Escobar (D-TX) departs significantly from past efforts—such as the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986 and the 2013 "Gang of Eight" Senate Bill (S. 744).

While previous attempts tied border security directly to a single, direct path to citizenship, the DIGNITY Act shifts to a two-tiered, fee-funded legal model that distinguishes between conditional legal status and full citizenship.

Editorial: The Most Powerful Vote Is an Informed One

As another election season approaches, voters once again find themselves surrounded by an overwhelming amount of information—and misinformation. Campaign mailers fill our mailboxes, political advertisements dominate our screens, social media feeds become battlegrounds, and conversations with family, friends, and coworkers often turn into debates over who deserves our vote.

In the middle of all this noise, one question deserves more attention: Are voters making decisions based on verified facts or on the loudest voices around them?

Influence is an unavoidable part of the democratic process. Political campaigns are designed to persuade. News organizations report on campaigns, and opinion writers offer their interpretations of events. Social media allows anyone with a phone to become a political commentator. While these are all protected forms of expression, they also place a greater responsibility on voters to distinguish between factual reporting, opinion pieces, campaign messaging, and online speculation.

Even those closest to us can unintentionally influence our choices. Family traditions, friendships, and community relationships often shape political conversations. There is nothing wrong with listening to different viewpoints. The concern arises when pressure replaces independent thought or when assumptions take the place of evidence.

An informed voter should never rely on a single headline, one Facebook post, or one person’s opinion. Important decisions deserve careful consideration. Reading multiple sources, reviewing public records when available, attending public meetings, and evaluating a candidate’s actions alongside their promises can provide a clearer picture than any campaign advertisement ever could.

Democracy depends not only on the freedom to vote but also on the willingness of citizens to think critically before casting a ballot. Every election is an opportunity to look beyond personalities and political slogans and instead ask meaningful questions about leadership, accountability, integrity, and results.

Regardless of political affiliation or preferred candidate, every voter benefits from the same principle: do your own homework. Listen respectfully, question thoughtfully, verify information whenever possible, and make your decision based on evidence rather than emotion or pressure.

The ballot belongs to the voter alone. It should reflect an informed decision, reached through careful consideration, not simply the loudest opinion in the room.

Voting is just around the corner. Visit www.IWillVote.com to make sure you are registered to vote.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: WE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN

Our history did not begin when someone decided to recognize us for one month.

Long before many of today’s borders were drawn, Hispanic and Indigenous families were building communities, raising cattle, farming the land, and caring for what is now Texas and the American Southwest. Our ancestors received land grants under Spanish and Mexican governments, and generations of families built their lives upon that land.

After Texas separated from Mexico and the United States expanded westward, many Tejano families lost their property through discriminatory courts, costly legal battles, questionable surveys, intimidation, violence, and documents they could not afford to defend. Historians have documented the extensive loss of Tejano land and the disregard of their property rights. (tshaonline.org (https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/mexican-american-women?utm_source=chatgpt.com), tshaonline.org (https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/tejano-politics?utm_source=chatgpt.com), tshaonline.org (https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/entries/mexican-american-land-grant-adjudication?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

When those families lost their land, they did not merely lose soil. They lost ranches, homes, businesses, generational wealth—and, in some cases, the future value of oil, gas, minerals, and other natural resources discovered or developed on that land. Other people and corporations built fortunes while many descendants of the original families were left with little more than stories of what their ancestors once owned.

The 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American War and promised protections for Mexican property rights in the territories transferred to the United States. Yet the history of Spanish and Mexican land grants shows that many families still faced complicated and burdensome systems when trying to defend what belonged to them. (archives.gov (https://www.archives.gov/milestone-documents/treaty-of-guadalupe-hidalgo?utm_source=chatgpt.com), gao.gov (https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-04-59?utm_source=chatgpt.com), visit.archives.gov (https://visit.archives.gov/whats-on/explore-exhibits/disenos-impact-mexican-cession?utm_source=chatgpt.com))

That is why Hispanic Heritage Month must be about more than food, music, and colorful celebrations. It must also be about truth, remembrance, education, and justice.

we can do our part by: Teaching our children the complete history of our people. Preserving family photographs, deeds, letters, and oral histories. Asking our parents and grandparents to tell their stories - and recording them. Supporting Hispanic historians, museums, businesses, and community organizations. Learning who owned the land before today's maps and property lines existed. Voting, Serving on boards, running for office, and demanding that our history be taught honestly. Building property, businesses, education and generational wealth for the families who come after us.

They may have taken land from our families. they may have profited from the minerals and oil beneath it. They may have tried to erase the names of the people who came before them. But they cannot erase us if we continue telling the truth. We honor our ancestors by remembering their sacrifices, speaking their names, protecting their stories, and ensuring that our children understand  that Hispanic history is not separate from American history. We were here. We helped build this nation. We still belong- and we will never be forgotten.

Nuestra historia vive en nosotros!
